Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Commitments

At Jewel of Mabul Development (JOMD), sustainability isn’t an afterthought—it’s a guiding principle.

Environmental Stewardship

JOMD is committed to preserving the unique ecosystems of Sabah through innovative, low-impact resort development. Our environmental strategy is designed to harmonize luxury with nature, from design to operations:

Green Design & Resource Conservation
All resort infrastructure incorporates sustainable architecture and green technologies focused on energy efficiency and water conservation—reducing our environmental footprint while enhancing guest comfort.

Waste Management Innovation
We implement responsible waste handling and recycling programs, ensuring minimal disruption to the island’s delicate marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

EIA Approved
Our environmental vision is backed by regulatory approval. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project was officially approved in 2010, recognizing our long-standing commitment to sustainable practices.
Environmental Education & Research Hubs
Our developments house two environmental centers:

The Borneo Mangrove & Rainforest Conservation Center at Asannang focuses on preserving vital coastal ecosystems.

The Marine Conservation & Coral Research Center at Lepa Lepa is dedicated to marine biodiversity protection, coral rehabilitation, and community awareness initiatives.

Social Impact: The Bajau Laut Community

Nestled within the heart of the Coral Triangle, our resorts are deeply intertwined with the rich cultural heritage of the Bajau Laut, often referred to as Asia’s Super Freedivers. These remarkable sea nomads have lived in harmony with the ocean for generations, practicing sustainable marine life practices long before it was a global concern.

Cultural Harmony & Sense of Place
Our architectural design embraces the Royal Bajau aesthetic, preserving a strong sense of place. Every structure and space is thoughtfully designed to reflect and respect Bajau Laut traditions and way of life.

Community Engagement & Empowerment
JOMD actively engages with the local Bajau Laut community through:
1) Employment & Skills Development Opportunities
2) Cultural Preservation Projects
3) Educational Support & Scholarships

These initiatives aim to uplift and empower while fostering long-term, meaningful partnerships rooted in mutual respect.
